Luxury Tree Design on a Dime

Top Tips for How to Decorate a Christmas Tree:

So, Thanksgiving is now over and time to get the tree out.  I don’t know if you’re like me and wing clipped this year, but I as I’ll probably do xmas without the wider family, so I want to make it look as festive as possible!   I just moved into a new flat, and so I had to start from square one in terms of getting decorations together.

1-Have a colour moodboard/ concept such as: red, champagne, silver or blue.  Do NOT MIX them all together.  This year I’m going with mostly champagne, hints of dark brown and some tones of gold and ivory.

2-A real tree is obviously ideal, but as I’m lazy and do not want to kill millions of pines a year (also I hate vacuuming) so I’ve opted for a fake tree. fake trees come in a large choice of 6-7′ and a smaller choice of 8′ and above, but I picked an 8′ tree that was pre lit with snow, pinecones and berries already attached on it for £196 on Wayfair.  I have 4m high ceilings and now wished I went 10-12′ instead.  So I don’t miss the natural tree scent, I also got some pine smelling candles and Christmas scents from Charles Farris London (great eco burning candle at £18.)

3-I prefer using warm white lights, but light colour is really up to you.  Rainbow lights are more fun for children, white lights are great when mixed wtih silvers or blues.  I have a personal tendency to stick to warm white, and like I said I got my tree prelit so that took away the pain of wrapping the lights around, though I’ve learned if you go that route to wrap things around vertically instead of spinning it around and around.

3- When picking ornaments make sure you do most generic cheap round ones but then add ones that are unique for texture and for a themed concept such as : snowflakes, doves, stars, bows, branches, stables etc.. This year I’m spraying pine cones gold with my son and using Crystal Snowflakes as my concept theme

4-I love a good thick ribbon that has light wired edges.  I got some for £7 from Easy Florist Supplies and I ran it vertically on the tree instead of wrapping it around, simply because it’s easier and looks very elegant.  I do a light ‘S’ shape as I wrap it vertically.

5-pick things with style and taste and make it look chic and have fun!  It’s okay to keep adding as you go because you’ll change your mind and look for new things you need to add, I just bought an angel for the top (as per my son’s request) and a thicker ribbon on amazon that is 150mm wide!  Can’t wait for it to come in and will post it soon.
